Clint
Collier Medals in Inline Speedskating Meet in Haltom City By Carolyn
Gibson
Clint Collier’s hobby is inline speedskating, a sport that requires strength, agility
and balance. You might have heard his sport called rollerblading. Call him what you
will, Collier, 25, keeps his priorities straight and knows how to balance family, skating, working and going to school.
Less than a year ago, Collier competed in his first meet in Waco, skating for DFW Speed.
Last weekend he finished first in the 500 and 1,000 meter races earning him a first place medal overall in the Novice
Senior Men Division in a meet at the Holiday Skatium in Haltom City. More than 70 skaters from teams
in Waco, Houston, Austin, Garland and Wichita, Kan. attended the meet.
The Haltom City meet was an
indoor competition, where Collier’s longest race was 1,000 meters around a 100 meter oval track, but he also likes to
skate outdoors where races are sometimes measured in miles, and can meander over winding courses. Last
spring he ran in the Texas Road Rash, a 28-mile outdoor marathon in Round Rock. This spring he will head
to Tampa, Fla. for another outdoor marathon.
Collier’s goal
is to earn a spot on the USA Roller Sports World Team. Skaters qualify for a limited number of slots on the team by competing
outdoors on a 200-meter banked track in Colorado Springs, Colo.
DFW
Speed is coached by Ricky Brock of Haltom City, Todd Hackney of Arlington and Gary Hilliard of Grapevine. Members
