Plano Inline Speedskater Qualifies for National Meet
Inline
speedskater Dyllan Thompson, 11, of Plano finished in the top four at the USA Roller Sports Regional Championship meet at
the Skate Country Rink in Waco, May 23. That qualifies him to complete in the USA Roller Sports Indoor National Championship
meet in Peoria, Ill. July 19-25.
Dyllan started training on speedskates just a
few months ago and only competed in his first meet last month. The May 23rd meet was Dyllan's first time
to compete in a regional meet and since he is so new to the sport, he probably will not go to Peoria. The meet will be simulcast
live over the internet, so Dyllan can stay at home and watch his DFW Speed team mates - this time. But he plans to train
hard for next year's regionals and then it's on to nationals.
Dyllan skates for DFW Speed
and so does his Dad, Marc Thompson. Dyllan's Dad competed in the Waco meet too and also qualified for nationals.
DFW Speed is coached by Ricky Brock of Haltom City, Todd Hackney of Arlington and Gary Hilliard
of Grapevine. Members train at the Arlington Skatium in Arlington and the Holiday Skatium in Haltom City.
